Rising Above: How Isaiah 40:31 Fuels Your Faith and Hustle

As entrepreneurs, leaders, and visionaries, we often live in a tension between divine calling and daily demands. We’re building, leading, and dreaming—but sometimes, if we're honest, we’re also battling burnout, doubt, and discouragement.
When we reach the end of our strength, Isaiah 40:31 offers a promise that’s both timeless and deeply relevant:
“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.”
— Isaiah 40:31 (NIV)
This verse is more than a spiritual pick-me-up. It’s a blueprint for how to endure, grow, and rise—especially in seasons where everything feels too heavy.
What Isaiah 40:31 Really Means for You
Let’s break it down, line by line, and see how it applies to your life and your work.
1. “But those who hope in the Lord…”
This is where the shift begins—not with hustle, but with hope. And not just any hope—hope in the Lord.
This isn’t passive wishful thinking. It’s active trust. It’s choosing to place your confidence, your next step, your business, your finances, and your future in God's hands—even when things look uncertain.
In Hebrew, the word for "hope" (qavah) can also mean "to wait with expectation." So it’s not just about sitting still. It’s about expecting God to move, show up, and provide. That kind of hope steadies your soul and silences the noise of fear, anxiety, and comparison.
Application: Replace performance pressure with confident trust. Build your goals on faith, not fear.
2. “…will renew their strength.”
This is where God starts to move.
When you put your hope in Him, something supernatural happens: your strength gets exchanged.
You don’t just “recover.” You receive a new kind of strength—God’s strength.
The Hebrew word for “renew” (chalaph) means “to change, to exchange, to substitute.” This means you're not just getting back what you lost—you’re being infused with something greater.
It’s not self-help. It’s Spirit-help.
Application: Don’t try to recharge through hustle. Recharge through surrender. Ask God daily to exchange your strength for His.
3. “They will soar on wings like eagles…”
Have you ever watched an eagle in flight? It doesn’t flap frantically like smaller birds. It soars—catching unseen currents of wind that carry it higher and farther with less effort.
That’s what God wants for you.
When you're operating in His strength, you're no longer stuck in survival mode. You begin to rise above the chaos. You start to see from a higher perspective. You’re no longer reacting to pressure—you’re responding with peace.
Spiritual Insight: Eagles are built for storms. While other birds hide, eagles rise above by letting the wind do the lifting.
Application: Build your days around God’s rhythm. Don’t fight the wind. Catch it.
4. “They will run and not grow weary…”
Life moves fast. Deadlines. Pitches. Payroll. Responsibilities. When you're running in your own strength, burnout becomes inevitable.
But when you're running in sync with the Spirit, endurance becomes your testimony.
You’re not just running fast—you’re running faithfully. You’re not just pursuing goals—you’re walking out purpose.
Application: Instead of asking, “How much more can I handle?” ask, “What race has God asked me to run today?” Obedience > overload.
5. “They will walk and not be faint.”
This is perhaps the most powerful part of the verse. Sometimes, life isn’t about flying or running. Sometimes, it’s about just putting one foot in front of the other.
And God says even in that? He’s there. Sustaining you. Carrying you.
Whether you’re grinding quietly behind the scenes or publicly growing something amazing—God is in the daily steps. He’s in the slowness, the waiting, the ordinary.
Application: Don’t despise small beginnings. God strengthens you even in the mundane. Even when no one sees you but Him.
For the Faith-Driven Entrepreneur: This is Your Edge
If you’re a Kingdom builder, you’re not just running a business—you’re stewarding a divine assignment.
That means Isaiah 40:31 is not just encouragement—it’s a strategic advantage.
It’s your reminder that:
You don’t have to perform to prove your worth.
You’re allowed to rest because God never sleeps.
You don’t need to match the pace of the world—your assignment has God’s timing on it.
Pro-Tip: Write this verse on a sticky note and place it near your workspace. Let it become your reset button on weary days.
Real-Life Example: Kingdom Momentum Through Waiting
Jamal, a real estate entrepreneur and Kingdom Investor community member, spent years grinding to grow his business. After hitting a financial wall, he was exhausted, discouraged, and questioning everything.
During a fast, God led him to Isaiah 40:31. For the first time, Jamal slowed down—not to quit, but to recalibrate. He began praying before business meetings. He took Saturdays off for Sabbath. He started seeing his team and clients as souls, not just transactions.
Within 6 months, his business not only grew—it became more life-giving. His team culture improved. Client referrals increased. But more importantly, his soul was finally at rest.
“It was never about the grind,” Jamal said. “It was about grace.”

Where in your life or business do you feel weary or burnt out?
Are you relying more on your effort or God’s empowerment?
What would shift if you stopped flapping and started soaring?
Kingdom Challenge

Prayer for Strength and Renewal
Lord, You are my strength when I am weak and my peace when the world feels overwhelming. Thank You for the promise in Isaiah 40:31. Teach me to hope in You daily—not in my effort or income, but in Your faithfulness. Renew my strength. Help me to soar when You call me higher, to run when You ask for faithfulness, and to walk when the pace is slow. May I never move without You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
