Financial Wisdom: Making Decisions that Honor God

Let’s talk about a foundational value for managing wealth as a believer: Financial Wisdom. Money isn’t just a tool—it’s a reflection of what we value and trust. God calls us to be wise stewards of what He’s entrusted to us, ensuring our decisions align with His will.

Biblical Wisdom on Finances

God’s Word is full of financial wisdom. Proverbs 21:5 says, “The plans of the diligent lead surely to abundance, but everyone who is hasty comes only to poverty.” This verse highlights the importance of planning and intentionality.

In James 1:5, we’re reminded, “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” Seeking God’s guidance in financial matters is foundational to making decisions that honor Him.

Practical Applications of Financial Wisdom

  1. Avoid [Bad] Debt: Proverbs 22:7 says, “The borrower is slave to the lender.” Make a plan to pay off debt and avoid unnecessary borrowing.

  2. Save with Purpose: Create an emergency fund with at least three months’ worth of expenses. Saving shows foresight and trust in God’s provision.

  3. Invest Ethically: Choose investments that align with Kingdom values, supporting businesses and industries that reflect integrity and honor God.

  4. Live Below Your Means: Simplify your lifestyle and focus on what truly matters, reducing stress and freeing resources for generosity.

Reflection Questions

  1. What financial habits do you need to change to reflect God’s wisdom in your life?

  2. How can you align your investments and spending with Kingdom values?

  3. What’s one step you can take today to grow in financial wisdom?
